Show must go on! The battle between Russian leading search engine «Yandex» and world leading SE «Google» continue. Today was announced the next step of this battle - «Google Inc.» announced the signing of an agreement with «Rambler Media» on the acquisition of «Begun» - a leading contextual advertising service in Russia - for 140 million U.S. dollars.
«Begun» is a contextual advertising service distributing ads between thousands partner sites.
The acquisition of Begun will give advertisers access to a broader network of sites to advertise on, and publishers will benefit from a wider set of adverts to run on their sites. Users will see more relevant advertising across a much wider set of websites. Google will bring its advertising expertise and experience to Begun’s network of websites.
“Google is very committed to giving Russian users, advertisers and partners the best possible service and experience,” said Mohammad Gawdat, Managing Director Emerging Markets, Google. “This agreement will result in better search results and more relevant advertising for our Russian users and publishers.”

Besides it, Yandex launched Traffic 2.0 Maps project: drivers in dozens of cities across Russia and Ukraine equipped with GPS devices inform each other about current traffic conditions in the real time mode, and create the city’s traffic maps together. The 3th July the company also launched the public beta of Yandex.Video - new service for searching and sharing video content. Now, Yandex users can search videos online and view the most popular video clips.
