Barcamp IDOL 2009!

BarCamp IDOL! is similar to American Idol : 5 minutes, Idea! and creative jury : two crazy and creative teams of jury. Every 4 presentation they are switching to another creative jury of Art-Directors, Chiefs and other crazy guys.

Each member of jury make marks, the are 5 criteria to be valuated:

- innovation
- business model
- presentation level
- social impact
- and what ever

1. Pozor.lv

Timeline: the projects are going to be lunched in few weeks.

Background: everybody know that right now the political situation are not so good and I would like to suggest the project Pozor.lv (”shame” of Latvia) : everybody can suggest some politics to discuss and then to vote about them. It’s opportunity to make population vox.

It’s the opportunity to determinate the “anti”-hero.

The business model
: it’s nonprofit project, just for fun. There are such “positive” projects like “Name of Latvia” and this project suggest the opposite opportunities - to put away all negative emotions and to avoid aggression on streets.

2. VeryPositive

auther: Pavel

Timeline: pre-alfa already launched on http://rep.ly

Idea: answer on questions, questions on answers, deep discussions, totally anonymous.

Features : smiles like real-time photos from your webcam.

Business model: only investment is beer, we don’t need money, but always open for beer and your questions

Marks:
4 (”because better when the first one, but I don’t see the busiess model besides adspots…)
3 (”I would like to give more because I’m fond that you do something, but I don’t see the matter…but it’s so nice that you do something)
4 (”I’m fond because first time I could say nothing as understood nothing, but it’s fun)

3. Dicipus.net

Background: Open Source is good thing but in real life most of projects developed by small group of people and onl this small group of people develop it and if somebody want to improve it they need to mail them their solution.

Idea: the system of code-sharing when everybody have own thread and can write. So, the owner can combine different threads and use it for final realize. Second thing - Open Source usually is like hobby and developers have no money from it. Our suggestion: if user want new feature - he have 100 euros and go to project and tell about it, then other people also take part i this payment and also agree to pay 100 euros as well. As result- everybody have satisfactions, developer receive 500euros from 5 users and then this feature bacome developed and free of charge for everybody.

Marketing: to interact with some already famous projects

Business model: from money which are paying by useres who want new feature, some share go to developers, some share go to special testers and some go to us.

Marks:

3,5 (good idea to combine two good things, good that use think globally, disadvantages - you told at least 5 times that you’ll make better, that means that it’s easy even with good concept to loose game if there are already some good and famous compatotors + the idea is easy to be copy/pasted. You need to understand how to be better of competitors )

3 (good idea, ambitions, but big probem how to involve visitors and developers)

3 (totally agree, important is not only how you’ll do it, but how to make marketing and to increase market share)

4. Buzzzz presentation: Where is my glasses?

I asked everybody, orgteam…returned home..buzzzz - they are on my my head!

5. Datorster.lv

Idea: from USA, one man made from old PC new PC, so idea - to collect old PC install on them Linux and give it to people who need them. Every gamer or developer have at least 2 old PC or different parts of them.

In USA there are such system.

Business model: mostly nonprofit, donations

Timeline: project are going to be on Datorster.lv

Possible problems: how to deliver old device? In USA they receive payments to utilize display like it have to be according to standards.

Marks:
0 for business idea… stop = this idea already work in Sweden
5 - because of idea, social impact ca be great, in ideal situation government is responsable for such things, but in real only people can do it and they can help lwith ooperation with special “crises centers”

6. Recruitment 2.0

Idea: now = most of recruitment processed go through email (1000 letters…)

So there are no easy way to filter and find quickly the right person. Suggestion: each position which are open have uniq address, you can communicate with collegas, have all comments history. Basic idea= to outsource job-parts of corporative website and to spreade it into different portals automatically.

Timeline: start integration with some job-boards.

Business money: paid solutions (SaaS to communicate and review the aplicants?)

3 (just to be more skeptic)

7. Skillership

Idea: for 8 years I tried 20ty profession and have different skills. So, in our day the professions is less important comparing the number and level of skills you have. So - I decided to develop the machine for skills to be more skilled.

So, the machine will answer the question : HOW TO?

Example: if you would like to learn english, using this web-resource and offline instrument you receive knowledge

Business model: secret…=)

Marks:

1 (just idea, but no information about model and even -what it’s really about)

8. BattleField

Idea: Its going about web-portal. It started from re-drawing pictures, transformation of small pieces of graffics and combined them.

Design battle - one by one pictures, it’s possible to transform this to another types of battles : photo, vidio, text (like poems) , etc.

So - idea = platform of automatize contests and battles between people in different types of content: photo, video, texts, etc.

Audience: bestly - anyone who are browsering the Internet; artists and the third = PR-companies who get money on it.

To gain critical mass: embed code, opensource, Facebook-application

Business model: if PR-agency want to host big contest, they pay for unlimited plan to use the instrument.
So, SaaS for PR-agencies to launch contest.

5 (almost the best idea I heard)
4 (the idea is good but more like fun)
4 (the idea is great but you need more detailed business plan)

9. Registered “Thank you”

Idea: Value evaluation system separated from monetization system. “Thank you” is instrument to evaluate directly by users and not from producer of web-project.

Example: local system for portal registered users of blog receive “thxs” for their actions. So, it’s like to say thanks and to support users without giving them money.

Marks:

2 (I just see some peices of idea, but it’s impossible to see like clear idea)

3 (it’s sounded like very scientific, but it’s necessary to contribute together with developers and new media specialist to understant how to se it o practice)

3 (you need to find some partners to launch it)

10. 4D in social networks

Idea: what will be if to mix Google Maps + Wiki + WhoisWho + Facebook+ Ancestry.com ?
+ to add artificial intellect ?

-> everybody now have 2D-connections (friends, colleges, etc.) + everybody spread in 3D geographically on the Earth -> appear “deep” 3D-connection like Facebook.com + add time -> add time -> 4D -> + relatives (grandmother, etc.) of each participant.

To main idea briefly = to show that we all are from Adam and Eva.

2 (I notice there are already something this done)

2 (I notice that Ancestry.com can do almost simular + in the worl there are already ENOUGHT Social Networks)

2 (the idea is very interesting, but perhaps there are such application on Facebook)

11. “Vsponni Vse” (Remember Everything)

Idea: there are thousands of pin-codes and it’s imposable to remember -> all these numbers you code according to your own associations like picture and then print it.

Disadvantages: 90% of people don’t think about security

1 (idea about “association” is good. But I would recommend to do it like software but without going on website)

3 (I recommend to do it like application for iPhone for 12 euros for limited amount of people, but this limited amount of customers - they will buy)

3 (don’t understand how to understand this picture near cash-machine)

12. “Mobile Social Network for business people”

Idea: mobile Internet is growing extremely fast. Using your mobile device and geo-based service you can easily look who are around you, look on their CV, etc.

Business model: paid-accounts. The network are going to be based on Professionali.ru - 5 millions of users, 10% can used mobile application -0,5 millions of people per month, 10% will pay for it, so - business model work.

13. FingerTV

Idea: small positive video-spots, because we think that crises is very actual and people need positive.

4,5 (great idea, positive and can become business model with donations)

14. Studying- system with sharing

Idea: system which allow to share information between students and teachers, makes tasks and trainings online.
The idea allow to test students with SQL-requests and system evaluate it and automatically show the result. There are some similar services n the world but they are paid.

Disadvantages: this was already made somewhere like USA, the target audience is very limited.

4 (science is good reason to do something)

15. Mafia

Background: Mafia is already ooold story=)
Mafia is the most profitable in Italia and in spite of crises they enriched their income in 2008.

Idea: game + social network
Business model: paid sms

Disadvantages: it’s not innovation, it’s just a copy of one of Facebook applications.
But what is innovation?
Innovation it’s when you don’t just copy/paste, but when you at least change something.

4 (not original, nothing new)

16. “Content is the king”

Idea: the content can go away. Lets publish content not only in digital way blog, but lets publishe it on paper like magazine as well.

17. Price monitoring

Idea: user submit product, system start monitoring changes of prices + add it on “geo”/Locally based foundation to show the best prices “near by” you and your current location.

3 (technical stuff it’s not so easy to make people share this information in the easiest way)

18. IM for website

Idea: to provide gate from website to all IM-protocols. Solution with API to connect all IM protocols and social accounts between your accounts and your visitors.

19. ZipWars: brower-based game

Idea: game-strategy which have integration on Google Maps.

5 (because you did it and try to make somethingoriginal, I notice there are already something simular but you really try to be original)

20. Berta

Idea: online-portfolio builder for designers and artists, simply and easy to use. Web-site under “private-label” domain name.

Business model: not really, but designers can sell their works and platform can earn commission..

Marks:

one VERY COMMON mistake: there are ONLY 2 successful strategies for small countries like Latvia:
- one is to INVENT SOMETHING NEW I THE WORLD or
- the 2nd strategy is TO COPY one successful project from another country with working business model.

3 ( just because you make it like designer and for designers and make more for fun with something like social responsibility, but in common - don’t invent bicycle)

Idea: people share stories how they change Planet

Business model:cooperation with eco-friendly companies + donation
