The biggest Russian search engine and internet-service portal Yandex announced that it placed its networking equipment in Frankfurt at an Internet Exchange Point (DE-CIX).

DE-CIX provides direct traffic exchange between its participants. Having connected to DE-CIX in Frankfurt am Main, Yandex reduced the number of transit providers carrying its traffic to Europe and shortened the service response time for its Russian speaking users living abroad.

The company rented a dedicated channel to Frankfurt and set up its networking equipment within its Local Network program announced on December 10, 2007. According to the official information, besides Frankfurt, Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Yandex has its server equipment in Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Kiev.

This is very logical and strategically right sound decision - Yandex have more 290 000 users from Germany every week and more 1,7 millions other international users.
